Moisturizers.

A moisturizer does more than moisturize

Moisturizers, enhance the barrier function of the skin and can protect against different external aggressions. Therefore, choosing good moisturizers is one of the most important steps for a healthy skin. Natural constituents such as: essential fatty acids (linoleic and gamma linoleic acids), vitamins, minerals, constituents for providing skin regeneration and nourishment. Humectants, such as hyaluronic acid and glycerin have an important role in retaining skin moisture and support the elasticity of the skin. Antioxidants are particularly helpful in stabilizing the collagen structure, which hold tissues together. Other antioxidants such as, beta carotene, vitamin E, vitamin C and selenium are beneficial for overall protection against environmental condition and UV rays.

Moisturize! A basic law of beauty is that everyone, no matter her skin type, should use moisturizers. Even if your skin is oily, it will benefit from moisturizers. Why? Moisturizers attract moisture & draw it into the skin. They also seal in moisture. If skin is lacking in moisture, the body will secrete an over abundance of oils to protect the lack of moisture.

Applying moisturizers to slightly damp skin protects your skin to lock in moisture and provide a healthy supply of daily essential nutrients. Be sure to apply extra moisturizers or extra intensive moisturizers to dry skin areas and areas such as elbows and heels. Moisturize again before bedtime.

For very dry skin areas and heels and elbows, Shea butter, or cocoa butter offer more intensive skin moisturizing. To keep skin fresh and hydrated all day, periodically spritz skin lightly with a water-based toner. Lips are especially susceptible to the environment and can dry out easily. They need to be protected moisturized with a lip balm that contains oils similar in viscosity and type to the natural oils found in lip tissue.

Moisturizers help to seal in your skins natural oils and act as a barrier between your skin and the environment. It is best to use moisturizers immediately after applying toners. Moisturizing is something everyone of every skin type should do including those with oil rich skin. Why? Oily skin is oftentimes a reaction to being dry. If skin receives enough humectants and emollients from moisturizers, then the skin will stop overpruducing oils.
